Hawthorne Park Playground Install Looking for Volunteers in 2017

Hawthorne-Park-Playground-Install-Looking-for-Volunteers-in-2017Porter’s own Ruth “Babe” Poparad took one of the last trips down the twist slide at the Hawthorne Park playground last week prior to its demolition (photos attached). Babe was also the first person to slide down the twist slide when the slide was installed over 22 years ago.

After four years of fundraising the Town of Porter Park Department purchased new playground equipment for Hawthorne Park this past November. Now that warm weather is here, the equipment is ready for installation and the Park Department needs your help. The Park Department will be installing the new equipment through a manufacturer-led community build on Thursday, May 4th and Friday, May 5th. The build itself will be supervised by the playground manufacturer, but the Park Department needs multiple hands to turn wrenches and provide support. No experience is necessary – if you can turn a screwdriver or wrench you will be a huge help. Breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided to the volunteers each day. This is a great way for you or your business to give back to the community – even if it is just for a few hours on one of the days! Those interested in volunteering can contact Brian Bugajski, Town of Porter Park Department Director at 219-921-1687 or parks@townofporter.com , to sign up for a volunteer slot.

Come out to help the Park Department install a few new slides for Babe to test out!
