Michelle Harris has been named to the Fire Territory Board for the City of Valparaiso, announced Mayor Jon Costas. “Michelle has demonstrated her commitment to serving our community and we’re pleased to have her serve on this important public safety board. The Fire Territory is an excellent example of governmental cooperation between the City and Center Township,” said Costas.
Michelle Harris has lived in Valparaiso for over 15 years and is an English teacher at Valparaiso High School. She is a graduate of Ball State University and Valparaiso University. She serves as the Valparaiso High School Student Council Sponsor, the Freshman Class sponsor and as Secretary on the Board for Temple Israel. She and her husband, Chuck Harris, have three children.
Formed in 2014, the Valparaiso Fire Territory provides fire and emergency medical services within the City of Valparaiso as well as throughout the township, including unincorporated areas of Center Township. The fire territory is governed by a single board which oversees the Valparaiso Fire Department, which responded to more than 6,000 incidents in 2023.
