If there’s one thing most Harley-Davidson riders have in common, it’s generosity. Between poker charity rides, veterans memorial riding events, and holiday giveaways for families in need, the Harley-Davidson family is known for giving back to the community, and the same goes for the Harley-Davidson shop in Valparaiso. On Saturday, in partnership with local pizza joints, Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso will give away 300 free pizzas to anyone who needs one.
“This is our way of giving back to the community in a time of need,” said Jeff Haggerty, General Manager of Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso and Michigan City.
The store in Valpo has had limited hours and has modified their service schedule and operations, and while everyone is itching to get their knees in the breeze, Haggerty said the team is focusing on what they can do in this time of crisis to help riders and the community at large.
“There are a lot of people out there going through a really tough time right now, and if we can help by giving them lunch or dinner on Saturday, we are happy to do that,” he said. “It’s part of the Harley culture. We’re big on three things when it comes to charity: kids, dogs, and food,” he laughed.
Families can combine all three on Saturday if they wish to bring their pets for a car ride. The giveaway event starts at noon at Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso, 1151 West Morthland Drive. A pizza will be delivered curbside to each car and those with three or more children in the car will be eligible for two.
Local parlors who have partnered on the event include Hungry Howie’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and Papa John’s.
“This is a great way for us to give back and to have people try some Howie’s, especially if they have never had our pizza before,” said Rob Conley, General Manager at Hungry Howie’s in Valpo. “I guess you could say, this is Howie helping the community stay fed and healthy.”
The store is donating 100 pizzas to the event and Conley will personally be hand-making them all himself. They’ll offer a variety – pepperoni, sausage, and cheese.
Anyone who plans to participate in Saturday’s pizza giveaway should practice proper distancing and sanitary protocols. Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso continues to offer online shopping, curbside parts and service, and will allow up to three shoppers in the showroom at a time under proper social distance protocols during modified hours. They also are offering free bike pickup and delivery for service customers and free bike sale delivery to homes. For more information on Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso, visit https://www.hdvalpo.com/.
