It’s been an unusual year, that’s for certain. With events, concerts, and just about everything else being cancelled or pushed back until next year, 2020 has looked nothing like what we’ve come to expect. But the good folks at Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso refuse to let this year’s unpredictability prevent them from having a good time.
“We figured that 2020 has been a strange year, so at this point, why not try to make it a little stranger?” said Jeff Haggerty, manager at Harley Davidson of Valpo. “Nothing has gone the way we thought it would earlier this year, so, at this point, we figured the best thing to do is just roll with it and have our own event.”
In its first year, Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso’s “Un-Fair” welcomed visitors from across the region to stop by the dealership and grab a bite of some tasty fair food from one of several food vendors who set up on their lot. With choices such as Leroy’s Hot Stuff, Dr. Vegetable, Elephant Ears by George, and Valpo Velvet, there was a large variety of delicious snacks and fair-food favorites for people to sample as they strolled through the lot.
They also offered some unbeatable deals on new and used motorcycles at the event, with nearly 45 quality used bikes in stock and ready for immediate delivery.
“We know that it’s been a tough year for everyone, so we wanted to do something to help people through this,” said Ginger Misch, event planner, and Genuine MotorClothes manager. “ For example, all our food vendors here are local to Porter county. They’ve had a rough year, so we thought that inviting them here would give them a chance to offer up some of their delicious food and sort of make up, at least a little bit, for all the fairs that they would otherwise be at.”
David Johnston and Shelby Hancock of Portage stopped by to grab a bite.
“We heard on Facebook that they were going to be having this event here today, and we really love fair food, so we made the drive down,” Johnston said. “We really loved the fried vegetables.”
“He got the vegetables, I got some cheese sticks,” Hancock said.
The staff at Harley-Davidson were eager to welcome people to stop by and enjoy the event.
“It’s a great chance for people to stop by and enjoy an elephant ear or some ice cream!” said Misch.
If you missed the Un-Fair today, don’t worry! The event continues into the weekend, with hours from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11 and 12.
