It was full day of action at Hanover Central High School, as girls’ basketball teams from around the Region took the court for the Wildcat Winter Classic. The traditional event played out a bit differently this year, however, as COVID-19 precautions transformed it into a series of round robin matchups, rather than a traditional tournament.
Hanover Central, Hammond Gavit, Wheeler, Thea Bowman Leadership Academy, Calumet New Tech, and East Chicago Central made up the varsity field. The action continues tomorrow, but Hanover Central walked away the day’s biggest winner – defeating Gavit and Bowman each by over a 40 point margin.
“It’s been a process to get here, we’ve been that team on the other side,” said Luis Roldan, Hanover Central Head Coach. “As long as we continue playing defense and pushing the ball, I see us getting better every time. I’m just proud.”
