Hammond’s Byway Brewing Partnering with Indiana Beverage to Bring Award Winning Beers to Northern Indiana

Byway Brewing opened up in February of 2016 and for the Hammond-based brewer, it’s been an exciting year. Recently, Byway partnered with Indiana Beverage to distribute their award winning beers across Northern Indiana.

It didn’t take Byway Brewing long to make their mark. In June, after being open for only four short months, Byway Brewing was named Indiana Brewery of the Year and Grand Champion Indiana Brewery of the Year at the Indiana Brewer’s Cup Competition in Indianapolis.

Along with being named Brewery of the Year, three Byway beers received gold medals at the competition.

“We’re now canning our first beer which is really exciting,” said Angie Toth from Byway Brewing. “We originally started off with four beers. Our brewer, Patrick Jones, has been in the industry for a long time and he moved out here to join our team.”

“We ended up winning six awards,” said Angie Toth of the competition. “We had no idea what just happened!”

As Byway Brewing grew, they had to make the important decision of whether or not to work with a distributor. Ultimately, Byway decided that Indiana Beverage was the right distributor to work with to grow their reach across the state.

“Indiana Beverage has made everything incredibly easy on our end,” Angie said.

Echoing Toth’s sentiments was her father, Dave Toth, co-founder of Byway Brewing.

“In the area that Indiana Beverage distributes to, we knew that they would be a very good partner to get us to that next level,” Toth said. “It is not hard to find negative views of distributors from brewers that are less than favorable, but the more we researched Indiana Beverage, the more they stuck out in the industry.”

“All of the views that I’ve found on Indiana Beverage from brewers have all be exemplary,” said Toth. “It just fit very perfectly and the couple guys that I knew from Indiana Beverage were, and are, great guys. With everything that I’ve found out about the company that the Leetz family runs, I was very comfortable going forward and I think it’s going to be a great partnership.”

Indiana Beverage’s Matt Johnson manages the craft beer side of things for the Northern Indiana distributor and has been working closely with Byway Brewing to get the partnership off the ground.

“We really wanted to find a Northwest Indiana brewer that was making some really fantastic beer and our own Bob Jacobs has a relationship with Dave Toth. Bob ended up at one of Toth’s ‘Home Brew Parties’, got to try some of his beers and really thought they were fantastic.”

“They stayed in touch over the years and then Toth started Byway Brewing,” said Johnson. “We kept in contact and knew they were coming along. We’ve always had an eye on them and we told them that whenever they were ready for distribution, Indiana Beverage would love to be the distributor that partners up with you.”

“They’re local guys making great beer and we’re a family-owned, local distributor so it was a great fit. It’s really nice to be able to take retailers there to meet Dave and Angie and just build our relationships.”
