On July 19, Lake Central High School’s Football Booster’s Club held its annual golf outing at Scherwood Golf Course. It was a day filled with fun, laughter, and a lot of good golf.
The day started with registration and welcome gifts. It then quickly moved into setting up golf carts and getting warmed up at the driving range. Players on the football team were also in attendance to help facilitate the activities planned for the outing members.
After a little bit of congregating, golfers started at their assigned holes and spent hours swinging away for a good cause.
Local sponsors for this event included Bullpen, BSN Sports, Car Tunes Inc., Travels by Charlotte, Realty Executives, Tulum Rentals, and so many more. The community's efforts in promoting a successful season is super beneficial to the players, coaches, and families.
The outing was wrapped up with a sit-down dinner where winners were named and prizes were given out. The hard work of the parents behind the many athletic boosters clubs ran at Lake Central shouldn’t go unnoticed, and this was the perfect way to get people excited for this upcoming football season.
What’s coming up?
Lake Central opened its doors on August 13 and is back in full swing for the 2024-2025 school year. Every new year brings adjustment, so an open house is offered as an opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, walk their schedules, and get informed on everything your child will be learning throughout the year.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lake Central asks parents to come and check out the building if they haven’t yet and walk in their kids footsteps for the night. Volunteers from the Mentorship Ambassador Program and other community service based clubs will be there to help guide parents around the school and answer any inquiries about the school in general. It would be super beneficial to have a copy of your students schedule when attending so you can get to classes in an efficient manner.
Lake Central recently welcomed eight new teachers: Lauren Holden, Zoe Miller, Madeline Bogathy, Amanda Koulianos, Pete Koulianos, Sydney Schluntz, Sara Sjoquist, and Nikelle Carlson. The open house is also a great way to give a warm welcome to new staff and start their year off right.
Nurses will also be available during open house if parents need to drop off medications or have any questions.
Without a doubt, Lake Central is headed into a great 2024-2025 school year, and the open house is just one of the many ways to get involved with your child’s school life.

Many little girls dream of walking the runway someday. For some, those dreams may seem ambitious; Leila DeRolf, on the other hand, has made a name for herself in this field. As a senior at Lake Central, she has juggled everything that comes along with being a teenager along with the hard work and dedication of becoming a model.
“I started modeling about four years ago. What inspired me was the way a portrait makes you feel and the many ways someone can interpret it. I loved the idea that you can tell a story through pictures, and I wanted to be a part of that,” DeRolf said.
Through these four years, DeRolf has quickly fallen in love with being in front of the camera and expressing herself within the art she creates.
“I model because I love to make people feel something in the pictures that are taken, whether that motivates them to buy a piece of clothing, connects to something in their life, or reminds them of something beautiful,” DeRolf said.
With roughly 9,000 and counting followers on her professional social media, her growing impact on the surrounding community cannot be underestimated. However, it doesn’t always require a big agency or social media presence to become a model.
“Currently, I am operating as a freelance model without representation by an agency. I have engaged in numerous collaborations with photographers in order to enhance my portfolio and diversify my body of work,” DeRolf said.
DeRolf also has a website where she displays all her work and provides the best ways to book a photo shoot with her. It takes a certain kind of person to make their dreams into a reality, and her work ethic can be transferred into other aspects of her life as well.
“I am dedicated to authenticity and professionalism in all aspects of my work. I strive to bring creativity, passion, and a positive attitude to every project I undertake and am committed to continuously improving and evolving my craft,” DeRolf said.
Her goals for the future are continuing to grow. DeRolf isn’t worried about “if” but “when.”
“My aspiration is to be represented by an agency and engage in a variety of modeling opportunities, whether they entail travel or work. Additionally, I am actively pursuing training to audition for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” DeRolf said.
Although modeling and working towards her goals may seem very time consuming, DeRolf still finds time to do other things she loves.
“When I’m not modeling, you can find me in the studio dancing, getting creative on social media, and hanging out with friends and family,” DeRolf said.
For this little girl, her dreams are turning into reality as we speak.
