Grease Finds Itself on LPHS Stage

“Grease” has long been a tradition in American households, and now it’s coming to life right on La Porte High School’s stage.

The play opened on Friday, April 19, with a packed auditorium. Actors waited anxiously behind stage to put all their hard work to use.

The play consisted of two acts and lasted about two hours. Just like the movie, many musical numbers were performed by the entire cast.

“My favorite was ‘All Choked Up.’ It’s a great ending to the play and my favorite line is in that song,” audience member Abbi Fryer said.

The two leads were played by freshman Bailey Roberts (Danny) and senior Miranda Steele (Sandy).

“We worked really hard on this show. Tryouts were about four months in advance and we practiced almost every day after school for a good two months,” Steele said.

The play consisted of actors of any grade and even those who weren’t involved with LPHS’s drama club. Art teacher Marybeth Lebo organized the cast and Mary Kay Steele directed and choreographed the musical numbers.

“I’m really happy with the way it turned out. We had a few minor details that still need to be worked out, but that will make tomorrow night’s show even better,” Lebo said.

A lot of the cast members even played two parts or were part of the stage crew, which made the play even more special.

“LPHS has never done a very well-known play, so when I heard we were doing Grease I knew I wanted to be a part of it. It came together a lot more than I expected,” cast member Brent Banic said.

The play is being performed again Saturday, April 20 at 7:00 in the LPHS auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults.
