Warmth. It can come from a smile or kind word, but when you’re out in the elements, it comes from a good coat.

Not everyone can afford a quality coat that will keep them warm throughout the chilly winter, however, and that’s where Frank J. Mrvan North Township Trustee can help.

The 12th annual Frank J. Mrvan North Township Trustee Coat Drive provides an opportunity for the trustee to fulfill its mission to serve the less fortunate in the community, this time by sharing the gift of warmth.

“The coat drive is important to the community because there are so many families with kids that may not be able to afford sufficient winter coats for themselves or their children,” said Lori Polgar, Chief of Staff.

The coat drive originally started in 2007 by Lisa & David Kusiak, and when Frank J. Mrvan North Township Trustee partnered with Kusiak Cares around ten years ago, it took on a new life. Still going strong to this day, it is expected that hundreds of coats will be passed out to the North Township community this year.

“We usually give out approximately 400-500 coats, and we expect to collect 800-1,000 coats,” said Polgar.

The Frank J. Mrvan North Township Trustee’s office will be passing out coats to residents in need who reside in North Township, including East Chicago, Hammond, Highland, Munster, and Whiting. The coats will be distributed on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Wicker Park Pavilion at Ridge Rd. & Indianapolis Blvd., Highland, IN. from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Any coats not passed out on that day will be donated to community organizations.

“All leftover coats get distributed throughout our offices, some are donated to the Salvation Army and other organizations in need,” said Polgar.

You can donate new or gently-used coats by bringing them to the several convenient drop-off locations listed below. Coats will be collected through November 13.
