Girls on the Run of NWI looks to empower girls in spring season

Girls-on-the-Run-Logo Girls on the Run, GOTR, of Northwest Indiana is looking for girls third to eighth grade to be a part of their spring season.

Online registration for the two programs recently opened and will be available until March 15. GOTR is the program for third to fifth grade, and Heart & Sole is for sixth to eighth grade, which both start March 4.

GOTR is a 10-week program which meets two times a week. The meetings focus on not just running though; there is an activity that has to do with social and emotional learning during every session.

Carrie Raudonis, a GOTR parent, said, “Great program for the girls' self-esteem and learned health. All three of my girls participated. My oldest in high school still talks about her experience.”

The season ends with a non-competitive 5K and end of season party. Girls of any financial background are welcome with 65 percent of the girls last year receiving financial assistance.

Registration for the spring programs is available at https://www.gotrofnwi.org through the register now link.

This council of GOTR has programs in seven counties including Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Strake. The organization works with local elementary and middle schools, but the girls do not have to go to the school to join that group.

GOTR of NWI impacted 2,300 girls in 2018. The teams completed over 140 projects to contribute to their communities.

Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
