GCSC Athletics Department Shares Project Updates, Enters Winter Sports Seasons

The Gary Community School Corporation Athletics Department is in the throes of a busy season of competition and structural improvements. Athletic Director Robert Lee expressed his excitement over the various projects taking place across the district including the bleacher installation at West Side Leadership Academy, equipment upgrades, painting and other improvements.
"The improvements that are taking place in our athletic department has a direct impact on student morale," said Lee. "Our students are seeing the installation of the bleachers and the arrival of equipment reel time, and this gets them pumped up for competition. They deserve the best, and we are working hard as team to provide an athletic environment that is on par with neighboring districts."
Lee noted that the basketball try-outs have taken place at the elementary and middle school levels, and the Girls and Boys High School seasons have begun. The wrestling and swim teams have also released their winter schedules.

At a recent community forum, members of West Side High School "Pride of the Side" alumni group presented Lee with a donation in the amount of $1,000 as a result of the Homecoming Tailgate Fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit athletic programs across the district.
"It's this type of support that brings our school community together," said GCSC Manager Dr. Paige McNulty. "We are thankful for this donation and will make sure that our student athletes reap the benefits."
