Gary to Host Drive-In Movie Night at Marquette Park Sept. 6

Movie-flyer-fin-LRThe community is in for a special treat Friday, Sept. 6 as Gary’s Marquette Park will be transformed into a drive-in movie theater. For only $10 per car, moviegoers will enjoy two family friendly films – “The Croods” and “The Tree of Life” starring Sean Penn and Brad Pitt. Gates at 6918 Oak Avenue open at 6:00p.m. with the first film starting at dusk.

This clever idea was the brainchild of Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson.

“While we don’t currently have a movie theater in Gary, we can still bring movies here,” said Freeman-Wilson. “It will be a fun night out for the family with Lake Michigan as a beautiful backdrop.”

In order to deliver the full drive-in theater effect, there will be vendors selling movie snacks including popcorn, hotdogs and elephant ears. There will also be an inflatable fun area where children can play until the movies begin. Attendees will be able to tune in to the film using their car radios.

There are also advertising opportunities. Local businesses and organizations can promote their message on the silver screen for just $500. The message will be looped in 30-second intervals for approximately 1 hour before the movie starts and during the event’s 20 minute intermission.

Going forward, the goal is to feature drive-in movie night the first Friday of each month from May to October. For more information contact LaShawn Brooks at 219-938-7363 or via email at events@marquetteparkgary.com.
