Today at Gary City Hall, Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson swore in 15 new officers and 6 reserve officers. bringing the force up to a total of 225 officers. Scores of family and friends crowded into the Council Chambers to show their support.
“We recognize the courageous commitment you have made to the city and citizens of Gary,” said Freeman-Wilson after administering the oath. “We welcome you to our family, and may you each have a long and prosperous career in law enforcement.”
Newly appoint Police Chief Larry McKinley and his command staff were there to welcome the officers to the force.
“This is job will be challenging, I ask you to maintain your integrity, and be safe as we move this department forward together” said McKinley. “I expect the best from each of you, and I am proud to have you on our force. God bless you all.”
The recruits will attend the Police Academy in November, and will be assigned to their posts upon completion.
