FUN__WITH_A_SPLASH_OF_CONFIDENCE_-_Youth-1Duneland Family YMCA is pleased to announce the opening of the summer swim season. The pool opens on June 8 with the first youth swim lesson starting at 10am. Youth lessons are available Monday through Saturday. Morning or afternoon lessons are available Monday through Friday. Four-week youth class sessions run June 8 - July 9 and July 13 - August 14. Adult swim lessons are also available upon request.

"There's a lot going on at the Y this summer," says Aquatics Coordinator Kyle Jeffers. "I'm excited to get started helping kids learn how to swim and stay safe in the pool, as well as watching them make new friends. Aquatics is a great way to help kids build a sense of confidence. It's amazing watching them realize all they can achieve. We've expanded the aquatic class schedule and reduced the price this year so that more kids have an opportunity to learn how to swim."

Other programs added to this year's summer roster are:
Swim Stroke Clinic that gives youth a head start in competitive swimming and learn advanced techniques while teaching the proper technical foundations that will be necessary to swim competitively.

Backyard Swim Lessons which will be taught in private pools for families. This class teaches the joy of swimming and the value of water safety techniques in residential pools.

Youth Triathlon Training designed to help kids participate in the Y's inaugural Rise & Tri Duneland Youth Triathlon being held on July 25 at Lakeland Park in Burns Harbor.

SCUBA lessons. See how cool it is to breath underwater and become adept at scuba diving.

Silver Sneakers Splash, a new interval format pool program for Seniors consisting of cardio, exercising each muscle group and using kickboards for a total body workout.

Aqua Aerobics, a great class utilizing cardio, endurance and flexibility training in the water.

Also new this summer are Pool Memberships that are good for use of the pool during Open Swim for the entire summer. Open Swim opportunities for Y members and community residents are scheduled daily.

"There's a lot to like about our Y summer programs this year. Bring your families to the Y and have some fun in the pool," says Jeffers. "All of our lifeguards and instructors are CPR, First AID, AED and American Red Cross Certified. The Y sets the standard for swim programs, with participants enjoying the sport for years to come."
