Frontline is Seeking Local Artists for Hooked on Art Festival

Frontline-FoundationsThe deadline is August 31, but there’s still time to apply as a live street artist or vendor for this year’s Third Annual Hooked on Art - Live Street Art Festival.

Artists from across the region are showing support for Frontline Foundations, Inc., a non-profit substance abuse treatment center, and their family-friendly Hooked on Art Festival by participating as a vendor or creating live works of street art over the course of a 9-4pm day on Saturday, September 27.

“We’re encouraging artists of all mediums to apply and fill the streets of Downtown Chesterton with color,” said Development Director Derek Frazier. “And this year we have a Chalk Art Competition with a $2,000 cash prize.”

Competing chalk artists like Amy Ahiga are participating in a good cause while promoting their own.

“Participation with Hooked on Art supports Frontline treatment scholarships for young adults,” said Ahiga. “And as a competing chalk artist, Frontline gave me a free vendor booth space to promote my Grain of Rice Project that sells handcrafted goods to support artisans from the slums of Kenya.”

Live Street Artist Marco Salazar is joining Hooked on Art to promote the Arts in Northwest Indiana using his favorite medium -- graffiti art.

“I’ve performed live graffiti art at Lollapalooza and across the country,” said Salazar. “But there’s nothing I love more than helping to promote regional art.”

The participation fee for Hooked on Art is $50 and applications can be found online by going to www.HookedonArtFestival.com and clicking the link “Calling All Artists”. For more information, please contact Frontline at (219) 728-1638.
