The Friends of the Crown Point Community Library 3rd Annual Literary Luncheon will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. The event will take place at the First United Methodist Church located at 352 S. Main Street in Crown Point, and will include a presentation of Moonlight In Duneland: The Illustrated Story of the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad written by local authors, Steve McShane and Ron Cohen, a sit-down lunch, and raffle drawing for gift baskets. Tickets to the event are $22 per person, and include the lunch and presentation. Books will be for sale and a book signing will follow the presentation.
This luncheon is just one of the many ways the Friends of the Crown Point Library raise funds to support the Crown Point Library and to provide intimate interactions between community members and quality authors. Stephen McShane has served as the Archivist/Curator for the Calumet Regional Archives since 1982. He earned an M.A. in History from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, and a Masters in Library Science from Indiana University Bloomington. Steve has authored articles and co-edited books on Northwest Indiana history, ranging from topics such as the career of Valparaiso Congressman Earl Landgrebe to Moonlight in Duneland. His latest book, co-authored by Gary Wilk, is entitled, Steel Giants: Historic Images from the Calumet Regional Archives, released by Indiana University Press in Spring 2009. Originally from Joliet, Illinois, Steve now resides in Valparaiso with his wife, Cindy. They have 2 grown children.
Ronald D. Cohen is Emeritus Professor of History at Indiana University Northwest. He is the author and/or editor of about 20 books, including Moonlight In Duneland, CHILDREN OF THE MILL: SCHOOLING AND SOCIETY IN GARY, INDIANA, 1906-1960, and GARY: A PICTORIAL HISTORY. He has also authored many books on the history of folk music in the United States and Great Britain, including WOODY GUTHRIE: WRITING AMERICA'S MUSIC, and THE PETE SEEGER READER.
