Some 165 Franciscan Health representatives were among hundreds of participants who turned out in force to support the war against cardiovascular disease, the number-one killer of Americans, during an annual American Heart Association Heart Walk at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point recently.
They are shown just prior to the beginning of the walk, of which Franciscan Health also was a sponsor. The goal of the event, and an upcoming walk in Porter County that Franciscan Health also will sponsor, is to raise $605,000 to benefit the campaign, according to the American Heart Association web site. More than $500,000 already has been pledged.
The association’s impact goal for 2020 is to improve the cardiovascular health of Americans by 20 percent, while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by the same amount. More than 1 million participants nationally are expected to raise millions of dollars through participation in Heart Walks this year.
