Some 106 Franciscan Alliance employees, family and friends took long and strong strides against cardiovascular disease during the annual Lake County Heart Association Heart Walk Sept. 19 at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point. The local event was one of 258 nationwide conducted to raise funds to prevent deaths from heart disease and stroke, which are the nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers, respectively, according to the association.
The event’s purpose also is to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living. Shown are the Franciscan Alliance team and Susan Slivka, Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point Heart Institute director, whose dog, Sydney, has participated with her in 14 Heart Walks. The amount of money raised by the event was not yet available.
