Foundation awards bikes to Merrillville students

Ten students at Fieler Elementary School got a great start to their Memorial Day holiday weekend Friday when they received bicycles, donated by Coleen Schultz through the Live, Love, Give Foundation in memory of her son Nick Schultz.

Nick was a Merrillville police officer who was killed in the line of duty.

The names of all students who were recognized as "Pirate Stars" throughout the year were placed in a drawing, and one boy and one girl from each grade were awarded the new bikes.

Pirate Stars are students who demonstrate the character trait or virtue of the week.
