On Friday, Lakeshore PAWS brought a little excitement to First Merchants Bank in Valparaiso. Puppies were brought into the branch to reward the business for recently sponsoring the shelter’s annual Pup Crawl event and being a sponsor for Lakeshore PAWS overall.
The Pup Crawl took place on June 16 and was located at Central Park in downtown Valpo. The event consisted of a 1.5-mile-long dog walk around the downtown area and also featured the Crawpuppies Band, a beer/wine tent, food trucks, and dog-related vendors on site. The Pup Crawl is a big fundraiser for the organization, typically drawing about 3,000 people and raising awareness about the puppies sheltered at Lakeshore PAWS.
Bringing the puppies to First Merchants Bank allowed employees, bank customers, and the puppies themselves to socialize with everybody. There were three 8-week-old pups in attendance.
“It’s so important to bring the puppies out to our sponsors in order to let them socialize,” said Level 2 Volunteer Toni Mullins. “We love bringing the puppies to our sponsors to thank them and let them have fun with the puppies.”
Employees and customers at First Merchants Bank were able to hold and play with the puppies inside the bank and outside in the grass. The furballs enjoyed being cuddled, getting their pictures taken, running around, eating treats, and attempting to eat a paper towel roll.
“Lakeshore PAWS is a great organization, and we love to be able to help by volunteering and helping out the dogs,” said Rene Martin, Relationship Manager at First Merchants Bank. “The puppies were an awesome reward to our employees and the customers that came in today. Everybody loves puppies and they make everybody happy!”
The puppies are brought to every sponsor of the PAWS organization in order to thank people for their involvement and dedication. Seeing and playing with puppies brings happiness to both people and the puppies, and that is one of the many goals for Lakeshore PAWS. Lakeshore PAWS is a nonprofit, volunteer-run animal rescue organization that was established in 2011. Their vision is to create a culture of compassion and partnership in Northwest Indiana that will one day assure that every pet born has a stable home and care throughout its life. Sponsors like First Merchants Bank make that vision become reality.
