Unfortunately, the team did not reach that goal. They put up a hard fight, but they fell short to their opponents, the Tri West Hendricks Bruins, by a score of 49-27. The loss snapped a 29-game win streak for Andrean.

Andrean-TriWest-2The 59ers were cheered on by their fans and student section to the very last whistle. Red overtook half of the stadium, and cheers erupted throughout the crowd.

Andrean students Meredith Osmulski and her friends came full of school pride, dressed in red tutus and other various red accessories.

Andrean-TriWest-3“It’s so great to support the ‘9ers.’ We fought a hard battle,” Osmulski said.

The excitement for the state game has been growing all week through social media.

Junior Cory Crist shared, “We didn’t have school this week, but the hype on Twitter and the news on Facebook and in the paper has gotten the whole student body excited! It was an awesome feeling to be at state again.”

Not only was it a great feeling for Andrean students to experience being at state. It was exciting for fans of all ages.

“They had a great season,” Kevin Kennedy stated. “Unfortunately, it didn’t end the way they wanted it to, but they have some really talented people coming back. I think overall they did a really good job this year, and they should be proud of themselves for making it this far.”

Red-clad Ellen Maravilla also shared, “They got further than they could’ve gotten. It’s a disappointing ending, but they did really well.”

The Andrean 59ers ended their hard-fought season with a 14-1 record and a state-runner up title.
