Family Health & Wellness Fair – Valparaiso Family YMCA/ Methodist Hospitals

YMCA-Red-PurpleThe YMCA’s Partner in Wellness, Methodist Hospitals, and The Valparaiso Family YMCA are holding a Family Health & Wellness Fair on Sunday, February 22nd from 11am to to 1pm at the Valparaiso Family YMCA in Valparaiso. This event is free to all Y members and the community. Free health screenings, exercise classes and demonstrations, along with healthy cooking demonstrations will be offered. Favorite mascots, Rusty from the Gary Southshore Railcats and Staley from DA BEARS, will be making an appearance. Children activities with information on healthy food ideas, upcoming events including aquatic, wellness, and sports classes will also be offered. Free chair massages will be performed by licensed massage therapists.

Free Cholesterol and Glucose screening will be done by Methodist Hospitals from 7:30 to 9:30 am. 12 hour fasting and registration is required. To register, call 1-888-909-3627. Other important health information will be offered including blood pressure screenings, body mass index, heart disease and stroke risk assessments, physical therapy screenings, bone density screenings, breast health, cancer prevention information, smoking cessation program information, and much more. Diabetes is a growing problem in America and information will be offered by Certified Diabetes Educators along with information about nutrition.

Methodist Hospital is the YMCA’s Partner in Wellness and this health fair is another example of the joint events the two organizations put together along with the seminars and screenings annually at the Y.
