Fall hydrant flushing scheduled for this month

The Water Department's biannual water system flushing will take place in two weeks, according to La Porte Water Superintendent Tim Werner.

Beginning Sunday, Oct. 15 and continuing for three to four weeks, crews will be out to flush fire hydrants throughout the community Sunday through Thursday between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Werner said this process is a critical part of maintaining the city’s water quality and infrastructure.

"Twice a year, our crews spend several weeks working through the night to help ensure the integrity of our water system for decades to come," Werner said. "While we know that this process can be an inconvenience, it is a very necessary part of our system maintenance. We appreciate everyone's patience and urge residents with questions to contact us at the Water Department."

During this process, Werner warned discolored or rusty water may occur in some areas. Though the water is safe to drink, he said discolored water in washing machines may affect clothing. To avoid staining clothes, residents should check their water before doing laundry. Should clothes have some staining, avoid drying and call the Water Department for free rust removing solution.
