Enrollment Deadline Fast Approaching for January 2014 Start Date and Indiana’s Free Prekindergarten Pilot Program

Lake Area United Way LogoOpportunity to send a current 4-year-old to pre-K in Lake county is nearing a close in the application deadline. Families have until December 15, 2014 to enroll their 4-year-old for January school start.

The Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning has a website and intake personnel to assist Lake County residents in the process of enrollment and selection to participate in preschool as early as January start.

“It is an exciting opportunity and one that we wish to take full advantage of within our county. There are providers enrolled to serve the kids and school systems supporting the effort – so no matter where you live within Lake County there will be a spot for those we are committed to serve,” said Kim Olesker, Regional Director for United for Children serving United Ways of Northwest Indiana.

On My Way Pre-K is Indiana’s state-funded prekindergarten pilot program, which will award grants to 4-year-olds from low-income families to engage in a quality prekindergarten program.

“This is an exciting opportunity for early learning providers in these select counties to be on the launching pad of this program which is a first for Indiana,” added Dr. John Wernert, Secretary of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.
