Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation Proves Community and Care Go Hand-in-Hand with Movie Under The Stars

Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (DNRC) proved that community and care go hand-in-hand at their Movie Under the Stars event, where residents of the Sheffield Manor and their family members enjoyed “Beauty and the Beast.”

For over 30 years, DNRC has provided their residents with top-notch service and care through activities based largely on community involvement. Now, with their newer assisted living center, Sheffield Manor, the establishment can further its goal of connecting residents with those in the Dyer area using events such as movie nights.

At this year’s screening of “Beauty and the Beast,” a large mixture of residents and Dyer families allowed DNRC to emphasize the establishment’s presence in the community and its passion for helping those in need of assisted living or rehabilitation.

“Events like this one are a great way to remind the community that we’re here, and we enjoy being a part of the community,” said DNRC’s Regional Director of Business Development, Kelly Petty. “If anyone needs our services any time in the future, whether it’s short-term rehab or assisted living, we’re here.”

Residents specifically appreciated the event because it not only gave them the chance to socialize with one another, but they also took the opportunity to introduce their families to the families of other DNRC residents. Julie Port, a former resident of the Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation wing of the campus and a new member of the Sheffield Manor, decided to attend the event to get some fresh air and mingle with her fellow residents and their families.

“It’s important for everybody to get together and socialize. I heard that there was going to be a movie, and I figured it would be a great chance to get outside and meet new people,” said Port.

DNRC residents particularly enjoyed meeting children from the Dyer area, who were more than excited to watch “Beauty and the Beast,” meet new people, and get rubber glove balloons from the ambulance that was on duty at the event. DNRC Administrator Nathan Wolf was happy to bridge the gap between Dyer youth and DNRC residents.

“We want to show that our facility really emphasizes a community approach to caregiving for our residents. Whenever we can incorporate the young with the old and bring family into an event like this, it’s a win-win for everybody,” said Wolf. “We really enjoy networking with other providers, who have been so gracious throughout this event. We’re excited for any opportunity to maximize our residents’ enjoyment while they are staying with us.”

This event was not the last of DNRC’s efforts to intermingle their residents with the Dyer community; the facility has several, holiday-themed events coming up in the fall as well.
