The community and local organizations are coming together in La Porte on National Make A Difference Day, October 26, 2013 for a Downtown Clean Up. The event will start at 8:30am with a volunteer meet-up breakfast; clean-up activities and an optional shirt pick up will begin at 9 a.m. Volunteers will be notified in advance of their site number and may register online by visiting www.makeadifferenceday.com.
Any volunteers under the age of 18 will need signed permission from their parent or guardian. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own materials and both skilled and unskilled are welcome to participate.
For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine and Points of Light have joined together to sponsor Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. Millions of volunteers around the world will unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others on October 26, 2013. La Porte citizens can help be a part of the change and come together to improve the downtown.
The Community Clean Up Day is still in need of projects and volunteers. Individual projects, whether you own a building or live in proximity to the immediate downtown area, can be submitted by contacting Tiffany Bley at the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce at (219) 362-3178 or email bley@lpchamber.com.
The Downtown Community Clean Up is sponsored by the United Way of La Porte County, and for more information please visit http://www.unitedwaylpc.org/.
