Currie Motors Ford of Valpo gives back to the community with mask donations

Philanthropy is an aspect of life that often goes unnoticed, but for those who are directly impacted by charitable actions, it is something they will not soon forget. Currie Motors Ford of Valpo donated nearly 10,000 masks to three school districts in the area.

The mask donations resulted from a partnership between the Ford Motor Company and United Auto Workers (UAW) to help distribute 100 million face masks to at-risk communities by 2021.

Through Currie Motors Ford of Valpo and the UAW, the Valparaiso Police Department, Valparaiso High School, Boone Grove High School, and Morgan Township High School were all given several hundred masks by Currie Motors Ford of Valpo.

“The mask donations were incredible,” said Chris George, Principal of Morgan Township Middle/High School. “It helps ease some of the anxiety that comes with having around 435 kids in one place. If a student forgets their mask or their mask breaks, we can provide them one so everyone stays masked and safe.”

The sheer number of masks donated baffled George.

“We got 2,000 masks, and however much masks cost, that’s something we don’t have to worry about for a while now,” George said.

The masks came in during a two-week quarantine at Morgan Township Schools, and George is looking forward to the masks being put to good use.

“It not only helps keep the school’s costs down but the parents of our students too,” George said. “That’s one less thing for them to worry about. Even our Mopar and Chevy fans will appreciate a free mask.”

Currie Motors Ford of Valpo has built a working relationship with the schools around the community. In the past, Currie Motors of Valpo paired with the “Drive for your Motors” promotion, which entailed Currie Motors Ford of Valpo bringing cars to Morgan Township Schools to demonstrate the features of cars.

Clay Corman, principal of Boone Grove High School, shared George’s enthusiasm for Currie Motors Ford of Valpo's donation.

“We are very fortunate to have local businesses like Currie Motors Ford of Valpo helping keep our students and faculty safe,” Corman said.

Valparaiso High School, which has been adamant about making sure students and faculty are properly following the mandates set forth by Governor Holcomb, was eternally grateful for the donation.

“This is a testament to the generosity of our community and the continued support for our schools. We are thankful for this donation of masks to keep students and staff safe,” said Superintendent of Valparaiso Community Schools Dr. Jim McCall.

The mask donations were just a small blip in Currie Motors Ford of Valpo’s long record of giving back to the community.  Currie Motors Ford of Valpo has been giving back to the Valparaiso community since it opened in 2015.
