Crown Point Names Economic Development Director

Greg Falkowski will rejoin the City of Crown Point’s leadership team as the new economic development director.

Mayor Pete Land announced the appointment during his monthly forum, Mondays with the Mayor.

“I'm excited Greg will be returning to the City in this role. His leadership and involvement in past projects in the City, coupled with his aligned values when it comes to new development in Crown Point, is a tremendous advantage for our community,” Land said.

Falkowski joined the City of Crown Point in 2014 when he took the helm of the Planning and Zoning Department. In 2015, he was named chief of staff under former Mayor David D.F. Uran. He retained the role under current Mayor Land, before accepting a role with the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority in September 2022.

“I am excited to rejoin the Crown Point leadership team and help bring vibrant businesses to our growing community,” Falkowski said. “I look forward to moving the City forward with smart, controlled growth while maintaining our hometown feel.”

During his tenure with the City, Falkowski helped plan, design, secure funding for and oversee the construction of various legacy projects, including the 109th Avenue Transportation & Safety Improvement Project; Bulldog Park; Legacy Fields at Center Ross Park; the Cal Ripken hitting barn and turf field improvements; the ongoing Sauerman Woods Park Drainage Improvement Project; and the Veterans Memorial Trail.

He also was instrumental in securing more than $10 million in matching grant funding through the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) for road safety and congestion mitigation projects, overseeing downtown pedestrian safety and parking improvement projects, as well as various road paving projects completed through the State of Indiana’s Community Crossing Matching Grant program, bringing back more than $5 million to the City from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Previously, Falkowski served as the planning administrator for Lake County, Indiana, and has eight years of experience as a tradesman with Carpenters Local Union 1005. He is a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as an imagery analyst and earned an associate degree in intelligence operations.

Falkowski holds a bachelor’s degree in geography, with a concentration in building, planning and geographic information systems, from Valparaiso University.

In his free time, he is a basketball official for the Indiana High School Athletic Association and coaches his children’s youth sports teams.
