Crown Point High School Provides Information on 2014 AP Scholarships

crown-point-bulldogs-logoCrown Point High School has once again benefited from a strong relationship with the Crown Point Community Foundation. For the fourth year in a row, the CPCF has generously awarded a grant to fund Advanced Placement end-of-course tests to students who demonstrate a financial need. This year, Crown Point High School awarded 45 scholarships to students who plan to take one or more Advanced Placement tests in May of this year.

With the exception of math, science, and computer science tests, all other AP tests cost $89.00 each. (Please note that students on Free/Reduced Lunch do not pay for their exams.) Thus far, students have signed up for over 1,200 tests; some students are taking as many as 6 tests. To qualify for one of the 45 scholarships worth $89.00 each, students submitted an essay to the Scholarship Committee which comprised Advanced Placement teachers and CPHS administration. With the encouragement of AP teachers, students submitted over 100 essays. As a result, the committee judged the essays on the following criteria: demonstration of financial need, the number of AP tests the student plans to take, and the quality of the essay. On April 7th, the scholarships were distributed to the recipients. The Crown Point High School family, including the administration, students, parents, and teachers, are most appreciative of the Foundation’s support of the Advanced Placement program.
