Crown Point Community Foundation Receives Million Dollar Gift

Manhart-Winner2013In 2007, the Crown Point Community Foundation was asked to develop a charitable plan for a very special lady.

Manetta Manhart Gibbons had charity in her heart when she met with the Foundation. “She had several ideas in mind when she approached me. We worked with her and her advisor to craft a plan that would celebrate her life and honor her family forever.” said Pat Huber, President of the Crown Point Community Foundation.

Manetta was interested in music. She was dedicated to the arts and to education. Manetta was also devoted to her community. In May of 2007, Manetta established a permanent endowment fund with the Crown Point Community Foundation. Manetta’s interests were evident as she set up her fund. Working with the Northwest Indiana Symphony, the Foundation was able to coordinate the distribution of over $27,500 so students could attend youth concerts. In addition, several musicians provided youth programming to the elementary schools in the area.

Manetta knew the value of education. A portion of her fund has eased the financial burden of college by providing more than $13,500 in scholarships.

Manetta’s ongoing devotion to her community is evident in the portion of her fund that provides grant dollars that will support the general, ever-changing needs of the community. Since 2007, her fund has provided $12,500 in unrestricted gifts for programs that impact this community.

In January 2013, Manetta Manhart Gibbons passed away. “Her generosity is overwhelming,” said Dave Batusic, Chairman of the Board of the Crown Point Community Foundation. “The Foundation was named as the beneficiary of her entire estate. We receipted a gift of over $938,000! This fund will continue to provide grants to the things that mattered most to Manetta; the symphony, youth programming, scholarships and her community. In total, Manetta’s charitable gift totals over $1 million dollars.

The Crown Point Community Foundation will be a prudent fiduciary of Manetta’s generosity. “I am so grateful that we were able to work with Manetta in developing her charitable plan. We had great fun meeting with the students and the symphony members. She enjoyed every minute!” said Pat Huber. “I am most grateful that we were able to say thank you to Manetta for her vision in making this gift a reality.”
