Danielle Litavec and Jon Reed, who will be united in marriage at the bottom of the stairs of the Grand Old Crown Point Courthouse during the Food & Arts Festival on June 16 at 6:00 p.m.

This wedding is part of the annual Marriage Mill that took place in Crown Point from 1915 to 1940. Crown Point was well known across the country as “the” place to tie the knot. Nearly 175,000 couples traveled to the city to say, “I do!” As many as six Justices of the Peace performed marriages at all hours seven days a week. Wedding parties arrived by the busload and local jewelers kept a very large stock of wedding rings on hand. The Marriage Mill is an annual event to commemorate this historic event!

Danielle Litavec is from Highland Indiana and graduate of Purdue University Calumet with her Master’s Degree in School Counseling. Danielle has worked for the Crown Point Community School Corporation as a School Counselor since 2010.

Jon Reed grew up on the south side of Chicago. Jon graduated from The University of Illinois at Carbondale with a Bachelor’s degree in Technical Resource Management. He now works downtown Chicago as an Elevator Mechanic Apprentice for the International Union of Elevator Constructors. Jon has a beautiful 5-year-old daughter, Alexa, whose favorite thing to do is go “camping with daddy.”

In the summer of 2014, both Danielle and Jon were engaged in a trial membership on Match.com. They had messaged each other for quite some time and finally agreed to meet. Danielle’s nerves got the best of her and she was hesitant about meeting Jon. Jon volunteered himself to meet her and her friends for dinner. The connection was instant. After only weeks of knowing each other, Jon took Danielle to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for a weekend getaway at a cabin high atop the beautiful Smoky Mountains. It was in this breathtaking setting that the two of them fell deep into the abyss of love. This experience left them craving more adventures together. In just under 3 years, the couple has traveled to Tennessee, Michigan, Georgia and Mexico! Their next adventure is a 5-day camp this summer in Havasu Falls, 10 miles down into the Grand Canyon in Arizona. They leave for this trip on June 19 just days after their wedding at the Crown Point Marriage Mill!
