Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce brings community together with 2022 Annual Corn Roast

On Friday, hundreds of people from around the Region packed the City of Crown Point’s Bulldog Park to attend the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce 2022 Annual Corn Roast. The Corn Roast is a two-day event taking place on June 3rd and 4th. The weather was beautiful as attendees were treated to food vendors from around the area, a beer garden, a Kid Zone, and live music.

This is the first time in two years that the Corn Roast is back at Bulldog Park and at its usual time. The COVID-19 pandemic caused the community event to be canceled in 2020 and in 2021 it was downsized and moved to another location. Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce enjoys putting on the Corn Rost during the first weekend of June because kids are out of school and the community is ready to kick off the summer.

President & CEO of Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce Deann Patena was excited to have the Corn Rost back in its rightful place, and the community responded by showing up. Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce was able to fill all of its vender spots, and there was even a waiting list.

“It’s just an awesome event to kick off summer for the community,” said Patena. “We’ve talked to people tonight from Hobart, Griffith, and Rensselaer, so people are coming from all over the Region to support this event.”

Patena and Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce loving putting on this community event for over 50 years because it gives them a chance to give back to the community.

“We support local and small businesses,” said Patena. “The money we make from this we put back into the community and our businesses that are members of the chamber so we can help support them with their business needs, so it’s important for the chamber to host this event every year.”

Katie Holderby, Secretary for Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce explained how working with the City of Crown Point made tonight’s event possible.

“The City of Crown Point deserves a lot of credit as well,” said Holderby. “They provide all of their resources to help with the event, especially this great venue.”

Holderby went on to explain why this event is so special and important for Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce.

“Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce is great at bringing people together,” said Holderby. “They have a huge commitment to not only the town of Merrillville and the city of Crown Point but to the entire Region. This is a great way for everyone in the Region to get together and kick off the summer.”

If this event sounds fun, but you were not able to attend tonight, don’t worry, the Corn Roast runs for a second night, June 4th. Tomorrow’s event will feature the same beer garden, food vendors, and Kid Zone. In addition, there will be a bags tournament 2-4 and a DJ from 2-5. Following that Jack Cunningham will perform 5-7 then High Street band 7-10.
