Dressed to the nines, attendees all donned dresses and tuxedos. As the chandeliers glistened, excitement filled the room.

President and CEO at Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce Deann Patena shared, “I feel like having 300+ people in one room and having the great opportunity of awarding fantastic leaders in our community is so exciting. It’s a festive night to award teachers, firemen, and police. We’re so proud to recognize our helpful and humble community servants and celebrate them.”

Singer Blake Alexander performed both crooner standards and pop hits as people participated in a silent auction and enjoyed tasty appetizers.

There were seven outstanding community servants recognized for their leadership and give-back efforts.

The Inspiring Educator of the Year Awards are about teachers who go above and beyond. These educators taught students about empathy, kindness, and confidence. The honorees were Jori Dusseau from Eisenhower Elementary School, Angela Wells from Merrillville Intermediate School, and Tara Beere from Boone Grove High School.

Firefighter of the Year Award winners Nicholas Van Sipma of Merrillville and Matthew Kodicek of Crown Point have put their lives on the line to help their community.

The Police Officer of the Year Awards went to Officer Nathan Way of Crown Point and Officer Nick Berzav of Merrillville for being positive influences in their communities.

“I’m very honored and humbled by this award,” Way said. “I did not see it coming. This has been such a great gala to be a guest at. Especially during these trying times that police officers, firemen, and teachers are facing, it’s wonderful to attend an event devoted to the recognition of all public servants. Congratulations to all the other winners as well!”

To conclude the evening, Windy City Dueling Pianos performed their combination of comedy and high-energy, live music played on two pianos by two skilled entertainers and musicians, Charlie and Sam.
