NWI Symphony Orchestra Coming to Taltree Arboretum & Gardens Friday Nights in August
Three Friday nights in August. Each night will feature a different musical ensemble. The concert schedule is as follows:

August 8 - The string ensemble will play nature-inspired classical music, including selections from Vivaldi's Four Seasons.
August 22 - A brass quintet will play a menagerie of classic, folk, modern and Broadway show tunes.
August 29 - The woodwind ensemble will play a travelogue of popular classics from around the world including a medley of Gershwin.

Each concert begins at 6:30 p.m. The gate opens at 5:30 p.m. Concerts will be held rain or shine. Bring your lawn chair. Single tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for students and children 5 to 12 years old and children 4 years old and under are free. Three-concert ticket packages are $70 for adults and $25 for students and children 5 to 12 years old. Taltree member discounts are available.

Walk a Mile in Her Heels
Grab a friend and your favorite pair of heels and join Hometown Happenings for the "Walk a Mile in Her Heels" on Saturday, August 9 at 4 p.m. at Carriage Court Pizza, 211 S. East St. in Crown Point. The event consists of a 1 mile walk through historic downtown Crown Point. Pre-registration cost is $15 if you wear heels and $18 if you wear comfortable shoes. Cost is $25 on event day. Participants in the walk will vote for a local women's charity with the top vote getters sharing in the proceeds. Find a golden shoe hidden along the route and in participating stores and win a wrap bracelet from D2E Gallery. Participants are also invited to bring a decorated shoe that will be auctioned off with auction proceeds also benefiting local women's charities. After the walk, enjoy light snacks from Smokey's Basement BBQ and live music. The walk is also being used to bring attention to ending the 5 year statute of limitations on sexual assault in Indiana. Merrillville Fire Department Hosts a Fundraiser Tournament to Benefit the Hoosier Burn Camp
The Hoosier burn camp specializes with year round programming for young people who have suffered through the painful trauma associated with severe burn injury. To find out more about the Hoosier Burn Camp visit: The Merrillville Fire Department is asking for monetary donations to help support this event. A $100 donation or more will entitle your business to have its name on a banner that will be prominently displayed at Hidden Lake Park in Merrillville, during the 2 day fundraising tournament in September. Your donation will help offset the minimal cost associated with this tournament and 100% of the proceeds will go to Hoosier Burn Camp.
