Crown Point Community School Corporation is proud to announce that German teacher Candis Carey will receive the Goethe-Institut / AATG Certificate of Merit from the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). This distinguished award recognizes AATG members who have made contributions to the advancement of German language education in the United States.
Out of numerous nominations from across the country, Carey is one of six German educators selected. "I'm honored to have been nominated and chosen for this award,” Carey said. “I was nominated by Angelika Becker, a teacher at Carmel High School, who was my mentor teacher for student teaching and we have kept in touch."
Carey's outstanding achievements that led to this recognition include exemplary teaching, creative and successful initiatives promoting the German language, innovative curriculum development, and successful course design. Her commitment to fostering interdisciplinary cooperation and her contributions to the profession of teaching German were also acknowledged.
Currently, Carey teaches German 1, 3, and AP German at Crown Point High School. In addition to her teaching, she will lead a group of students on an international field trip and exchange program to Germany and Austria this summer, further enhancing the global perspective of her students. The AATG Awards Presentation, where Carey will be officially recognized, is scheduled for Sunday, November 12, 2023.
