Cortney and Cait got to Relax with Don Roberts

Sometimes you just need to treat yourself. Fellow Lifer Cortney and I went to Don Roberts Beauty Schools in Schererville and did just that.

Both of us got front and back facials. I love a good facial, and I’ve never had a back facial so I was more than excited.

“As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by the staff. I felt comfortable from the time I walked in and the time I left," Cortney said. "Jessica, my esthetician, was very professional in the steps she took and made me feel relaxed during both of my facials."At Don Roberts, our estheticians were students. They get their experience and hours by performing spa services on real people. Lori, a senior at Don Roberts, was my esthetician. Jessica, also a senior, was Cortney’s esthetician.

What was included in each facial was a skin analysis, 30-minute massage, application of products specialized to the individual, a hydrating mask, and a hot towel.

During the facial, one of the instructors came in and checked Lori’s work. She gave feedback and a suggestion here and there, and was quite pleased with Lori’s progress, as was I.

She used this lemon and lavender potion on my face that I just couldn’t get enough of because it felt so nice and smelled wonderful. Product scents are important, not as important as their reaction to your skin or the ingredients within, but nonetheless something that smells nice is better than something that smells bad. Besides, smells are a strong memory trigger and I might request that same product when I go back next time.

I asked all sorts of questions and Lori kindly answered them all. We got along great and I left there feeling relaxed and ready for my PJs and cozy slippers.

Probably my favorite part of the whole thing (besides the facial, obviously) was talking with the students. They were incredibly nice and inviting, and both Cortney and I felt welcome. Have you ever walked into a salon or spa and felt ignored or unwelcome? It’s an awful feeling, and I didn’t feel that way at all at Don Roberts. They know that it’s not just about the services, but the customer survives as well.
