Civic’s free COVID-19 testing here to stay for October

Following another busy and successful month, City of La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody said the free COVID-19 testing site will remain at the Civic Auditorium through October.

Dermody said the site, which opened July 1, was set to be at the Civic through the month of July only. However, after testing numbers continued to beat daily, weekly and monthly expectations, Dermody said the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte and LaPorte County Emergency Management Agency Director Larry Butcher worked with the state to extend the testing through the month of September and now October.

“Students are back in school and the number of positive cases in our community continues to be a concern,” Dermody said. “For this reason, access to free testing is crucial. We are grateful to be keeping this free service in La Porte for the fourth month in a row. Thank you once again to the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte and Director Butcher for their efforts to keep the testing site in our city.”

Testing is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is completely free to anyone who lives or works in Indiana. Though Hoosiers will not be charged for testing, individuals with health coverage should bring that information with them. Those looking to register can do so online at https://LHI.Care/CovidTesting or by phone at 888-634-1116.
