The City of La Porte recently hired Jessica Bruder as its first-ever communications director, according to Mayor Tom Dermody.
With the ongoing pandemic, Dermody said communication with city residents is critical. He said having someone in this new position will help ensure the public is informed during these confusing times.
Since 2018, Bruder has worked as a press secretary for the Indiana House of Representatives in Indianapolis, coordinating communication efforts for seven Northwest Indiana legislators.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jessica and her skills to the team,” Dermody said. “Great things are happening in La Porte, and we want to make sure they are communicated effectively to the members of our community. Between her unique experience and the enthusiasm she brings to the position, I have no doubt that she will help us continue spreading the good news.”
Bruder is a native of La Crosse, Indiana, and graduated in 2018 from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and strategic communications.
She started the position on March 30.
