City of Hobart will come to life with downtown holiday events

City of Hobart will come to life with downtown holiday events

Hobart is a prime example of a city that exudes small-town charm but is always thinking ahead. Coming down from a successful season of warm-weather events, such as the Lakefront Festival and Dive-In Movie nights at the Hobart Pool, and the recent autumnal gatherings like Halloween Party in the Bowl (hosted at the legendary Brickie Bowl), the City of Hobart is looking to end the year with even more flair.

The Hobart Parks and Special Events departments coordinate activities that unite community members and benefit local businesses so the town can continue growing. Up next on November 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the City, the Hobart Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Business Coalition will be hosting Small Business Saturday.

Many businesses will offer refreshments and special deals. For instance, Tom Lounges’ Record Bin, which draws visitors from all parts of the Region, will be showcasing live music throughout the event, plus free refreshments, a gift card drawing, opportunities to win tickets to concerts at the Hobart Art Theater, and a ‘Spin the Wheel’ sale with a chance to receive 5 to 20 percent off a total sale. With the holidays just around the bend, Small Business Saturday gives patrons a timely window of opportunity to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts curated by hard-working local businesses.

Small Business Saturday celebrates the recent Renaissance in Hobart’s downtown area. A cherished Christmas tradition, the City of Hobart Tree Lighting, is receiving a fresh perspective this year. Keeping the merriment focused throughout the bustling downtown area, the Tree Lighting will take place in the parking lot on the corner of Third and Main streets.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the block between Third and Fourth streets will be closed to make room for horse and carriage rides, carolers, ice sculpting, Hobart Band performances, photos with Santa, and more. This Hobart Tree Lighting and Christmas Extravaganza presents another way for the community to enjoy festivities.

On December 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the city will offer another shopping opportunity with the Hobart Holiday Market. The event promises more than 80 vendors and a wealth of opportunities to find unique presents for loved ones this holiday season.

With beloved and iconic gathering spots in Hobart, such as Festival Park and the Brickie Bowl, the city charms community members and visitors alike. All around, attendees can expect new twists on traditions that draw them back year after year.
