City of Gary to Mark Thanksgiving with 2nd Annual Gospel Concert

City-of-GaryAs Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson approaches her third Thanksgiving in office, she again leads the charge for charitable giving during the holiday season. Thanks to the contributions of main sponsor McDonald’s, Food Bank of NWI and scores of local churches, non-profit organizations and businesses, the city will be able to feed hundreds of families.

On Saturday, November 22 at 12 p.m., a Thanksgiving Gospel Concert will be held in downtown Gary at the Genesis Convention Center featuring a host of local groups and soloists. The cost is $10, which will be collected at the door and all proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.

Following the concert at 3:00p.m., a food basket distribution to more than 500 families will take place. The giveaway is for individuals who have already registered. (The list for recipients is now closed. We ask the media’s help in making this clear so that parties who have not registered will not attend expecting to receive a food basket.)

“While we think of doing kind acts throughout the year, it’s the holidays when that charitable spirit seems to come alive the most,” said Freeman-Wilson. “Every year we will try to do more, and doing the concert once again is our way of trying to lift everyone’s spirits.”

The emcees for this year will be Gary’s own Gospel Emcee Marvin Lyles and Chicago gospel radio personality Pam Morris. (See flyer attached)
