City of Crown Point, Geisen Announce Return of Tree Bonfire Celebration

The City of Crown Point, Geisen Funeral Homes and Geisen-Pruzin  Funeral and Cremation Services are pleased to announce the return of the Christmas Tree Bonfire Celebration.

The City of Crown Point and Geisen have partnered for 21 years to host the annual  celebration. This is the first year since 2020 the celebration will be open to the public. The  ceremony was closed to the public in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tree burning will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S.  Court St. There will be free hot chocolate and popcorn. This is a free, family-friendly event.

Natural trees can be dropped off at the designated location at Lake County Fairgrounds or  placed at the curb of your home. All trees must be received by Saturday, Jan. 7.

“It is great to see this family friendly event return to the Lake County Fairgrounds,” Crown Point Mayor Pete Land said. “We look forward to continuing this beloved tradition with Geisen.”

“We are so happy to bring back this great event. All ages love to come out to the gigantic  bonfire and feel the toasty warmth as they enjoy some hot chocolate and popcorn. It's a  community celebration like no other,” said Larry Geisen, owner of Geisen Funeral Homes.
