CHS Trojan Guard captures third place in Goshen Invitational on Saturday

The Chesterton High School Trojan Guard Marching Band traveled to Goshen, Indiana this past Saturday to participate with 19 other Northern Indiana bands in the Goshen High School Invitational. The 105-member Trojan Guard captured third place while achieving their highest “Week 1” score in many years.  The Open Class A competition was won by the 203-member Homestead Spartan Alliance Band, while second place was taken by the 172-member Carroll Charger Pride.

The Trojan Guard’s 2022 field show entitled, “Something Blue”, features popular musical selections from the 1950’s and 60’s as well as a modern concert work.  The pieces include: ‘Blues In The Night’ by Harold Arlen, ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ by George Gershwin, ‘Blue Bossa’ by Kenny Dorham, ‘Blue Rondo a la Turk’ by Dave Brubeck, and ‘Blue Shades’ by Frank Ticheli.

There are 105 students in the Trojan Guard, 67 woodwinds and brass players, 19 percussionists, 17 color guard members and 2 drum majors. The Drum Majors for the Trojan Guard are Skylar Peffers and Bridget Wisdom.

The Trojan Guard is under the direction of Jon Flodder, Matt Christensen, and Vince Arizzi. Additional staff includes Mariah Salyers and Bella Habzansky as Color Guard Directors, Colin Campbell and Lana Wordel as Percussion Directors, Michael DePasquale as Audio Technician, and Jeff Wroblewski as drill design. The next competition for the Trojan Guard will be Saturday, September 17 at the Concord Invitational, in Elkhart, IN. The next local performance by the band will be at the CHS Homecoming football game and Homecoming parade on Friday, September 23 when the Trojans take on Portage High School.
