Chesterton Orchestra “Pops” Concert at Coffee Creek

chesterton-orchestra-logoThe Chesterton High School Orchestra will present a "Pops" Concert at the Chesterton Amphitheater @ Coffee Creek, this Friday, May 30 at 6:00 p.m. It is a free concert that is aimed at bringing the community out to the event. "We played a concert a few years ago at Coffee Creek, and it is a wonderful venue to relax and hear live music," said CHS Orchestra Director Vince Arizzi. "Many people were out walking or jogging at the time, heard us playing, and came over to take in the rest of the concert!"

The concert was constructed with the general public in mind. The program includes a wide variety of musical styles to appeal to everyone. "We intentionally picked something from each decade, starting with the 60's, so that every audience member would enjoy something on this concert," Arizzi explained. "We've got oldies, rock 'n roll, classic rock, movie music, even Michael Jackson's "Thriller!" Electric string instruments, drumset percussion, and even a vocalist help to bring this eclectic program to life. "This is not your traditional orchestra concert...more like a rock concert with strings!" says senior cellist Josh DeVries, who will be soloing on electric cello during the song "Carry on My Wayward Son," originally by the band Kansas. Junior Emily Mellin will also be featured as the lead vocalist on the orchestra's rendition of "Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

The concert, lasting about an hour, is free admission with lawn seating available. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy! In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the CHS Auditorium.
