Chesterton High School Students Learn about Local Government

CHS-Learning-about-local-government-01Teacher Christine Bullock took her Chesterton High School first session summer school Government students to give them a hands-on approach to learning the procedures of local government and our local police department. Students are studying the Constitution, discussing Fourth Amendment search and seizure and 14th Amendment due process.

Students also study federalism- the balancing of power between federal, state, and local government. Chesterton Town Manager Bernie Doyle, discussed his role and what he does to ensure that the town runs smoothly and safely. Chesterton Police Chief David Cincoski (not pictured) and Sergeant Chris Swickard worked with students in a mock trial situation to help them understand the legal process.
