The Chesterton High School Sandpipers, Drifters and Show Choir Band, “The Business,” successfully kicked off their 2018 competitive season this past Saturday, January 20 at Milton High School in Milton, Wisconsin.
‘The Business‘ had the third highest band score of the day and improved their performance each time they played. Seniors Simon Williger (Sandpipers) and Warda Yakub (Drifters) were named the outstanding performers for their ensembles. Sophomore Rebecca Lane (Sandpipers) earned first place in the solo competition, out of 40 total participants, and received a scholarship to Shell Lake Show Choir Camp.
The Sandpipers earned a spot in the finals (top six groups) and took home fourth runner-up in a field of over 16 mixed show choirs from across the Midwest. The Drifters capped off an incredible performance by earning their first grand championship in nine seasons. They earned the highest scores in the unisex division for vocals and choreography.
“I am incredibly proud of the hard work and commitment from each of these student performers,” Director Kristin Morris said. “They have pushed themselves to be better every time they step on the stage, whether it’s practice or performance, and that was evident in the results from this past Saturday.”
The next competition for each of these ensembles will be Saturday, February 10 at Plainfield High School in Plainfield, Indiana.
