Set in ancient Roman times, the show is witty, fast-paced, and full of surprises as it follows the antics of Pseudolus, a crafty slave, striving to play matchmaker for his master, Hero, in exchange for his freedom.

Director Kristen Morris shared that this play was chosen as a means of bringing comedy and laughter to the local community.

“I always look at what the world and community are in need of,” Morris said. “We’re still in the middle of crazy, uncertain times and no one knows what every day is going to bring. So that’s where the want of showcasing a play that is funny and makes folks laugh came into play. We thought that with crazy things happening the past two years, it felt like the right choice was to allow these kids to embrace the comedic side of life and themselves.”

Dylan Leavitt, who plays Pseudolus, shared his thoughts on the character he portrays.

“This musical has been my favorite,” Leavitt said. “The role of Pseudolus has been my most favorite – I’ve loved having such a fun, comedic role. I’m just so excited.”

Lauren Bolla, who plays Hysterium, shared her hopes for the audience.

“I’m so excited for everyone to see the production,” Bolla said. “All of us have been working so hard and the play is hilarious. With all the twists and turns, we don’t know how the audience is going to react. So it’s very exciting!”

Sophie Streeter, junior at Chesterton High School and show choir member, came out to support her friends and peers.

“It’s evident that the cast has all worked really hard on it,” Streeter said. “This production is definitely something very different than what has been done in the past. It’s really interesting to see our director take on something that varies from past productions. The play is hilarious and I highly recommend it!”

“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” will be performed this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $10 at the door.
