CCSJ Men’s Basketball Goes Two for Two at Jaguar Classic

CCSJ-Mens-Basketball-Goes-Two-for-Two-at-Jaguar-Classic With their first win of the season already behind them, the Wave were looking to start their 2018-19 season with two victories in a row. Mission accomplished. For the second time in as many seasons, the Crimson Wave start the young campaign 2-0 after a decisive win against East-West University on Saturday afternoon at the Jaguar Tip-Off Classic.

RESULTS
CCSJ Crimson Wave – 89
EWU Phantoms – 60

HOW IT HAPPENED
Much of the early portion of this contest was a back and forth affair. CCSJ (2-0) and East-West University (0-3) traded the lead seven times in the opening ten minutes before the Wave said enough was enough. The Crimson and Gray, down 25-24 with 8:58 left to play in the first, outscored the Phantoms to the tune of 29-17 to take a 13-point lead into the intermission. The Wave shot 47.2 percent from the field, and Brandon Cooper (SR/Milwaukee, Wis.) put in 13 of his game high 23 points in the opening frame.

It was just a matter of taking care of business in the second period. Cal College built an insurmountable lead over the course of the final 20 minutes, not allowing EWU to lead once, while outscoring them in the half 34-18. Even though the Wave's shooting percentage dropped about 11 percent, they held East West to just 21.1 from the field and didn't allow one three pointer off 11 tries from behind the arc. Both Brandon Cooper and Randall Rushing (SR/Chicago, Ill.) were named to the All-Classic team after their 89-60 blowout victory of the Phantoms.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Wave dominated the points off turnovers and second chance points battles, outscoring East-West 27-19 and 29-16 respectively in those two categories.
