Cardinal Stritch Tops Purdue Calumet in Three Sets

PUC-PeregrinsA Cardinal Stritch University team riding high off a victory over the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference's top team proved to be too much for the Purdue University Calumet volleyball team to handle in a three-set loss Saturday in the league's crossover tournament.

The Wolves (12-15, 6-2 CCAC) defeated the Peregrines by a score of 25-21, 25-12, 25-10 in the tournament's final match just minutes after handing Trinity Christian (16-6, 6-1) its first loss in 15 tries as well as the Trolls' first conference loss.

Haley Smith (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley) led Purdue Calumet (6-13, 2-6 CCAC) with 21 assists and six digs, while freshman Gabrielle Martin (Kankakee Valley, Ind./Kankakee Valley) had eight kills and six digs and classmate Carissa Jones (Whiting, Ind./Bishop Noll) added six kills.

Samantha Basar (Plainfield, Ill./North/Kishwaukee) led the team on defense with nine digs.

The Wolves swung for a solid .374 attack percentage, including a stellar .640 in Set 2 to outpace the Peregrines.
