Cancer Resource Center to host Life After a Mastectomy event

Join representatives from Isabella Boutique for an educational session focused on helping women navigate life after battling breast cancer.

The event – Life After a Mastectomy: Breast Prosthesis & Lymphedema – will be hosted by Cancer Resource Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19 in the Community Room at Valparaiso Health Center of St. Mary Medical Center, 3800 St. Mary Drive, Valparaiso.

“We are excited to be able to offer this program to women who have been affected by breast cancer,” said Jennifer Sarkey, director of Cancer Care Services. “The program is designed to support all survivors of breast cancer, no matter where they are in their journey.”

The event will display different types of breast cancer prostheses, bras and compression arm sleeves for preventive and lymphedema treatment. Participants will learn what to expect at a fitting, the importance of wearing a prosthesis and why re-fittings are suggested at different stages of life.

“The mission of Isabella Boutique is to help you restore a positive body image, renew your confidence and regain your self-esteem,” according to the Valparaiso shop’s website.

The free event is open to cancer patients and their caregivers. Masks and social distancing are required. Call 219-836-3349 to register.
