Calumet College of St. Joseph is proud to host an art exhibit by Katherine Van Drie. The artist gave this statement regarding her work:
Use. Define. Disclose.
This body of works explores the interconnectivity between the things we use, consume, and place around ourselves for decorative purposes. This can often define or disclose much about our lives and even our struggles, expectations, and beliefs. At the same time, what is available for our consumption also reveals a great deal about where we live and the challenges we face.
The Auxilium Persolutum, or Paid Help, series develops these ideas further by exploring the complex interrelationship between individuals, medicines, and society. The Latin word Auxilium can also be translated by the old English word “succor,” which means assistance and support in times of distress and hardship.
The exhibit runs until October 17th. A reception with the artist will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14th in the Bernard Gallery at the College from 4:30-6:30. All are invited.
